Actor Jake Gyllenhaal took time away from his schedule to visit New Eyes for the Needy on May 24 to meet with volunteers and staff, but it wasn't an unusual visit for him. Gyllenhaal's connection to the Short Hills nonprofit goes back many years. The celebrity chef signs books at William Sonoma at the Mall at Short Hills.
Two young Emeril Lagasse fans were dressed in their best chefwear to meet him on Friday afternoon. John DeSena, 8, of Westfield, was dressed in an apron, which Lagasse signed for him. He's been watching the celebrity chef's television show since he was 3 years old. With him was Marco Damiano, 5, of Kennelon, who was dressed in a chef's hat an apron. He plans to open his own restaurant some day. Neither knew each other before Friday, but had met while they were standing in line to meet Lagasse at the William Sonoma at the Mall at Short Hills. They met the chef together while their mothers took photos of the boys, and their mothers were trading contact information following the meeting. She Spearheads Celebrity 'Truth' Web site, PerezRevenge.com
Liz Silver is used to being the one behind the scenes with celebrity news, but her Web site has been thrust into the limelight because of a lawsuit. The Short Hills resident is the mastermind behind PerezRevenge.com, a Web site which devotes itself to the rights of celebrities by giving them a venue to respond to allegations made against them in the media. There has been "enormous traffic" to her celebrity-rumor-busting Web site, she said, particularly over the past few days—in no small part because of developments in her ongoing legal battle with pot-stirrer Mario Lavandeira, better known as Perez Hilton.
