Glenwood, Deerfield and Hartshorn ranked high statewide with South Mountain and Wyoming in 80th percentile in academic achievement, according to the 2013 NJ School Performance Reports.
Millburn School District's elementary schools were recently ranked in the top tier in academic achievement throughout New Jersey according to the recent school performance reports issued by the Christie administration. Glenwood and Deerfield elementary led the group, ranking in the 96th percentile in the state with Hartshorn right behind in the 95th percentile. South Mountain and Wyoming both tested in the 81st and 81th percentile. Wyoming and Hartshorn schools were the only two that didn't meet 100 percent of their targets — Wyoming made 83 percent while Hartshorn made 75. Wyoming also only ranked in the 39th percentile for College and Career Readiness, meeting none of the state's targets and 58th in Student growth, meeting 100 percent …

Deerfield and Glenwood elementary schools commended for student achievement and growth.
Two Millburn elementary schools have been recognized as one of the highest-performing schools in New Jersey by the state Department of Education, officials said. Deerfield and Glenwood elementary schools were named as Reward Schools by the state this week. Only 112 schools received the recognition this year. "We are very proud of the students and teachers in those schools," Superintendent Dr. James Crisfield said Monday. Deerfield was named a High Performing school while Glenwood was recognized as a High Growth school. The rankings are determined by analyzing data from the 2008-11 school years, including NJASK, HSPA and APA exams. Fifth-graders at the elementary school perform "The Wizard of Oz" for two near sell out crowds.
Deerfield Elementary's fifth grade production of the Wizard of Oz went on without a glitch on Feb. 8 and 9 despite the severe snowstorm earlier this month. The school postponed opening night a day and near sell out crowds enjoyed one of the best musicals around.

Millburn elementary school will perform 'The Wizard of Oz'.
Deerfield Elementary School's fifth-graders are set to perform this year's school play, 'The Wizard of Oz'. Opening night is Friday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30. On Saturday, Feb. 9, the show starts at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or email jodibloom123@yahoo.com.

The Millburn elementary school celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day by spending the extended single session day making lunches for the homeless.

All the students at Deerfield Elementary School decorated paper bags and filled them with nonperishable foods on Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The students made 550 sustainable lunches for Bridges Outreach in Summit to help feed the homeless.

As part of Millburn Gives Back, Deerfield students held the first annual Polar Bear Parade to help support families affected by Superstorm Sandy that hit the state on Oct. 29. The storm devastated the state causing power outages and damaging homes, leaving families without a place to celebrate the holidays. Millburn families and the school district jumped in to help out. In December, Deerfield Elementary School raised $4,000 to help Sayerville students impacted by the storm through a coat drive and donations. The school collected almost 400 coats for NJCares annual coat drive.

The school's PTO voiced concerns of the overcrowded focusing on kindergarten.
More than 50 Deerfield parents filled the new middle school auditorium to discuss concerns over an overcrowded elementary school at Monday's Millburn Board of Education meeting. The Deerfield Parent-Teacher Organization told the board it has concerns with the safety and socialization of students because of an increase in the number of students now attending the school. Deerfield has added 33 students this year, according to Lauren Hollender, co-president of the Deerfield PTO. Currently, there are five kindergarten classes and four are over limit of district guideline of 20 students per class. As part of the 50th anniversary, principal Kelly Salazar finishes her search for the school's rumored time capsule.
After months of an 'Indiana Jones' style search, Deerfield Elementary School officials unveiled a 50-year-old time capsule from when the school was built in 1962. The anxious crowd of students and staff whispered the treasure hunt could be a bust when the stone holding the capsule seemed like it wouldn't come out, but every time the stone moved just a little, the crowd yelled in excitement. Finally, after more than an hour and using many different tools, the masons cut, wiggled and chipped away at the surrounding bricks to pull the 1962 stone out last Wednesday morning, as students, teachers and principal Kelly Salazar watched in awe.
