Storm water management experts proposed 10 regional practices to deal with water infiltration for the 24 municipalities affected by the Rahway River watershed, which spans three counties, Essex, Morris and Union, in Thursday evening's conference. The Nutley Board of Commissioners voted this week to join a lawsuit with Hopewell Township and the New Jersey League of Municipalities to keep from losing $200,000 in taxes from Verizon. A court hearing in Newark to discuss whether the township of Bloomfield can take the section of the Bloomfield train station by using eminent domain was postponed on Friday. Howard Haberman, a Bloomfield developer, is contesting the township’s decision to seize his property, which the town says has become rundown and dilapidated. Haberman has countered he wanted to develop his portion of the train station into a retail and restaurant complex and said instead of eminent domain, the township should negotiate with him. The case was scheduled to appear before Judge Patricia Costello yesterday but the hearing was postponed due to illness. It has been rescheduled for Oct. 4. A 54-year-old Verona woman killed Tuesday night while crossing Bloomfield Avenue in Verona did not cross in a crosswalk, according to Verona Police Chief Douglas Huber. Marie Trusits was struck by the car at 8:45 p.m. near 370 Bloomfield Ave., Huber said, adding she crossed the street as "it was getting dark." The weather was clear at the time of the accident, he said.
