Car Crashes into Morris Ave. Home

Two members of family sent to hospital following accident.

A car crashed into a Morris Avenue home, sending two people to the hospital, including a small child. Emergency responders said that some time around 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, an elderly driver of a town car lost control of his vehicle. Reportedly swaying the vehicle as he drove the one-way street, the driver—described by neighbors and emergency responders as in his 70s or older—lost control of his vehicle and spun into a single family home set set back from the road.  His car was lodged into the home up to the windshield and required firefighters and emergency responders from Springfield and neighboring towns to perform emergency carpentry to extract the vehicle. Neighbors said the man was not injured in the accident.  The car slammed …

Letters to the Editor

Letter: Praise for Volunteer First Aid Squad

Family thanks First Aid Squad for help and care during a family emergency.

Dear Editor, We want to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad as well as the Millburn Police. Recently our family has had to call upon their assistance several times.  Each time a different group of squad members responded to the call, and each crew exhibited both professionalism and compassion. When a loved one suddenly becomes unresponsive, anxiety immediately sets in, and it’s extremely comforting to know that help is just a 911 call away.  The anxiety seems to subside a bit once the 911 call has been placed. The police officers and squad members have a very calming effect on the family, and make you feel very comfortable as soon as they arrive. On behalf of Guido Ricci, the family …

National Night Out Attracts Crowd

Families flock to downtown for the fun coordinated by the Millburn Police Department.

Face painting, hot dogs, hoola hoops and moon bounces were just some of the fun in downtown Millburn on Tuesday night. It was National Night Out, sponsored by the Millburn Police Department. There were crowds of families on Main Street taking part in the festivities that also included information from police, the fire department, the Millburn-Short Hills Chapter of the Red Cross, the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad and the department of public works. Kids got to sit on a police motorcycle, take a tour of an ambulance and walk through the fire department's smoke trailer. National Night Out is a national crime and drug prevention event that has been going on for 27 years. Last year marked the first time Millburn held an event…

We had a nice time. The "bounce house" and other inflatable room were poorly set up, and mostly unsupervised by the vendor (who was alone, no assistant, to manage both "rides"). Thankfully no kids were hurt. Please do not use this vendor for ANY future town events.   more ›

The afternoon was hosted by Captain John Miksch and volunteer EMT Leigh Goodman.
