District achieves its highest rank in the last few years — 69th in the country and ranked highest among open enrollment schools in New Jersey.
In the most recent Newsweek America's Best High School rankings, Millburn High School was rated 69th, the highest ranking the district achieved in the last few years and also the highest among open enrollment schools in New Jersey. In the last few years the school has moved up more than 150 spots, having come from 227th nationally in 2010. In 2009, the school ranked 170th and 151th in 2008, respectively. In 2011, Millburn did not participate in Newsweek's survey and therefore did not make the rankings. The publication gave the high school an overall score of 3.64. The top school in the country, Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky, was given 4.84. Newsweek ranked the high schools based on six components: 25 …

The free concert is Thursday in the high school auditorium will include "All of Me," "Summertime," "All The Things You Are," "Foot Pattin' Time,"" Come Fly With Me,""Sir Duke," and "Low Down."
The Millburn High School Music Department will present its annual "Night of Jazz XIV" concert on Thursday night. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The concert is free and culminates the celebration of "Jazz Appreciation Month" in the schools. The annual concert will feature the high school's Stage Band conducted by Mindy Scheierman, Lab Band, conducted by Matthew Spatz, and Middle School Jazz Band, conducted by Adrienne Blossey and Brian Fleming. New Millburn High School route starts Friday, Feb. 1.
At the Monday, Jan. 28 Millburn's Board of Education meeting, the board approved a contract to Barker Bus of Bridgewater, N.J., for an additional high school bus route. The contract was approved for the period beginning Friday Feb. 1 and running through Sunday, June 30 and will cost the district $144 per diem, board officials said. According to Business Administrator Steven Di Geronimo, the original bids received were overbudget and were rejected. The company assures continuity and will fit together with existing routes, Geronimo said. Also at the meeting the board released budget documents, including cut sheet, surplus analysis, budget's first draft and enrollment projections. More on the Jan. 28 board meeting to follow.

Orchestra and Choruses will perform
The Millburn High School Orchestra and Choruses will present their Winter Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m in the High School auditorium. The Ninth Grade Chorus, Cantica Nova, will perform a set including folk songs from Ghana and Hungary, and a setting of the poem “If Music Be the Food of Love” by Andrew Miller. “Pete, Pete!” from Ghana and “Hey, for the Dancing” from Hungary, both have an emphasis on rhythm but in two very different styles. Erroll Garner’s “Misty,” an American jazz standard, has quickly become part of the American songbook. The Millburn Chorale will perform a set of choral classics. Included are R. V. The Mllburn Millers were defeated 35-19 by the Tornadoes of Orange HS last Friday October 5 at Bell Stadium in Orange. Millburn’s record now stands at 2-2. In a shift from the previous week’s loss to Barringer, the Miller offense was able to move the ball well, racking up 356 yards of total offense. Senior running back Steven Montuoro (16 rushes, 154 yards, 1 TD) led the charge, followed by Junior Quarterback Milo Freeman (18 rushes, 80 yards, 2 TD) and Senior running back Alex Schoen (10 rushes, 53 yards). Back to buses, books and bagged lunches for students as summer vacation officially ends for the younger residents of Millburn and Short Hills. "Classes and test and homework, oh my," the High School front sign said, welcoming students back to a national Blue Ribbon School. Millburn High School has been one of top-ranked school throughout New Jersey for years. The Millburn School District reopened its the doors to its almost 5,000 students on Tuesday to kick off the 2012-2013 school year. The renovation of the exterior bleachers at Millburn High School stadium will begin on Tuesday, July 24. During construction the stadium will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for all activities, including the use of the track. The field and track will only be open to the public after 4 p.m., or once work has completed each day. It is expected that the project will take approximately two weeks to complete.

The Board of Education, High School, Middle School and elementary schools announce its office hours.
The Board of Education offices, at 434 Millburn Ave., have announced its summer hours. The offices will be open during the summer from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Millburn High School and Middle School will also have office hours between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 pm The Elementary Schools, with limited staffing, are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Education Center and all school buildings will be closed on some Fridays during July and August (7/13, 7/20, 7/21, 7/27, 8/3 and 8/10).

In three cases, four laptops and an iPhone were stolen from the high school in the last week.
In three separate incidences, four Apple MacBook laptops and an iPhone were stolen from Millburn High School in the last five days. The security director of Millburn High School told police on Monday that sometime last Thursday morning, three white Apple MacBooks were stolen from Classroom 211 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The school is conducting its own investigation as well and told police they would contact them with any additional information. On Monday, two different students also reported thefts of Apple products at the school, with both incidents occurring in or near the boys’ locker room around the same time. A 16-year-old boy said someone entered his backpack between 8:30 and 9 a.m. and took a MacBook and a computer mouse. The …

Excellent question Sophie. Do you think this is all based on self-reported scores and information? AP scores are an important metric in this ranking. A student told me that some do not take AP courses in MHS but study with tutors- and there are native speakers who take AP language exams. Are these scores counted?   more ›
