Here's whats on the agenda for Millburn and Short Hills this week.
On Monday, the Millburn Board of Education is set to reorganize this week with two new members. The meeting is scheduled for tonight at 7:45 p.m. in the Education Center. The newly elected members, Dr. Rupali Wadhwa and Raymond Wong, will take the oath of office along with incumbent, Dr. Eric Siegel. The three were elected in November's election. On Wednesday, there is a Planning Board Meeting at 8 p.m. on the second floor of Town Hall. Agenda is attached for residents to review. On Thursday, the Historic Preservation Meeting is scheduled at 7:30 p.m in Town Hall on the second floor. Agenda to come. Join the Historical Society for a salon on compatibility of new construction with existing buildings.
What IS that in the attached photo? A church? Under another building? On Sunday, April 29, from 2 to 4 p.m., members of the Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society will see and discuss this and similar photos at the second program in the society's Architect's Salon Series. Local architect James Weill will explore architectural and urban design examples from our community and from around the world that have used different approaches to address this challenge of approaching new construction in an historic setting: The various viewpoints on this issue that architects, planners, politicians, historic preservation commissions and project neighbors have will be discussed. The application now heads back to the Planning Board for another review.
The Historic Preservation Commission still opposes the plan to subdivide the property at 114 Glen Ave. The commission reviewed the latest version of the plans on Thursday during its regular meeting. The developer, Greener Homes, LLC, has been seeking permission to subdivide and build an additional home on the property, which is a designated historic site. A previous recommendation by the Historic Preservation Commission was for the Millburn's Planning Board reject the application, as it was not in keeping with the historic nature of the area. The Historic Preservation Commission does not have an official capacity with the application, but it is the second time the Planning Board asked for a recommendation during its proceedings. Thursday'…
