Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day set aside to celebrate and honor the birthday of the slain civil rights leader. The holiday is celebrated at both the federal and state levels. Here's a list of what's open and what's closed on Monday. State and local government offices are closed. Courts are closed. Financial and stock markets are closed. Post offices are closed with no regular mail delivery. Banks have the option to close. Public schools are open today because of missed days during Superstorm Sandy. Trash pick up: In Millburn and Short Hills, there will be trash pick up. NJ Transit trains will operate on a major holiday/weekend schedule. Just fyi, there's a note on the town website's new garbage collection info that states that "trash will not be picked up only on major holidays, which includes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. All other holidays will receive trash and/or recycling collection." more ›
