Two New York residents, Irvington resident arrested last weekend after two alleged attempted shoplifting incidents.
Millburn police arrested three men in two separate shoplifting incidents this past weekend at the Mall at Short Hills, officials said. Luis Santa-Cruz, 49, of Irvington was arrested after being taken into custody by store security at Neiman Marcus on Sunday, April 7 at about 12:30 p.m., police said. Store security told police Santa-Cruz tried to leave the store with a $225 shirt under his clothing after trying it on in the fitting room. He was charged with shoplifting and released with an April 17 court date in Central Judicial Processing Unit in Newark. Police also arrested Adrienne Worrell, 44, of Brooklyn and Eric Grayson, 50, of the Bronx, after they attempted to shoplift $185 in clothes from Macy's on Saturday, April 6, police said…

Millburn police are asking the public's help identifying woman allegedly involved with multiple pickpocket thefts in the Mall at Short Hills.
Millburn police are asking for the public's help in identifying an unknown woman who allegedly was involved in multiple pickpocket thefts at the Mall at Short Hills, officials announced Wednesday. The victims told police they discovered their wallets missing when they went to make a purchase. After allegedly stealing the wallets, the woman reportedly used the stolen credit card to buy items in the mall, police said. According to the report, the suspect has been seen on video surveillance in numerous stores making fraudulent purchases. Police are asking anyone who may identify the woman to contact the Millburn Police Department Detective Bureau at (973) 564-7017 and refer to case #13-3574.

Zina Rendel, 54, of Marlboro, and Chris Yuen, 27, of Highland Park, were arrested in two separate shoplifting incidents Monday in The Mall at Short Hills.
A man and woman were arrested in two separate shoplifting incidents Monday at The mall at Short Hills , Millburn police said Wednesday. Chris Yuen, 27, of Highland Park, was arrested for attempting to steal two Burberry shirts from Saks Fifth Avenue around 12:20 p.m., police said. Yuen took two shirts off a display rack and put them in his shopping bag, police said. He then tried to leave the store without paying when security stopped him. Yuen with shoplifting and was released with a mandatory court date. At 3:55 p.m., Nordstrom’s store security caught Zina Rendel, 54, of Marlboro, attempting to steal a gold bracelet valued at $195, police sad. Traffic accident causes loss of power to mall on Wednesday.
The Mall at Short Hills lost power on Wednesday for less than an hour, according to the mall's Facebook page. The mall reportedly lost electricity when a driver was involved in an accident nearby and struck a power pole. The driver was not injured in the accident, officials said. As of 1 p.m., Nordstrom's remained without power. Shoppers exited the mall when power was lost around 11 a.m. They were permitted to re-enter around noon. Patch will continue to update this story.

The Mall at Short Hills hosts The Lake Drive School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Mountain Lakes to give its students a chance to talk with Santa Claus in sign language.
Christmas came early for 30 deaf or hard-of-hearing children in The Mall at Short Hills on Thursday. For the first time in most of their young lives, these children got a chance to sit on Santa Claus's lap and sign what they wanted for Christmas as he signed back. "It was something to watch an 8-year-old talk with Santa signing," the principal of The Lake Drive School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Mountain Lakes Julie Lazeration, said. "It was so amazing to see that interaction." The school focuses on educating children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing from birth through high school throughout the state. Forever 21 joins the Cheesecake Factory as the new offerings in 2011 at the Mall at Short Hills.
The Cheesecake Factory isn't the only new thing coming to the Mall at Short Hills in 2011. Forever 21 is due to open this year too. The Cheesecake Factory is due to open this summer, but an official opening date has yet to be set. Mall officials announced the opening of the restaurant earlier this month. But also coming in 2011 is Forever 21, a national chain that has an "unprecedented selection of clothing and accessories at value prices," according to a mall press release. It's due to open this summer in a 40,000-square-foot store. "New merchandise is brought in daily, creating an exciting mix of dresses, denim, shoes, intimates, outerwear and more," a mall press release states.

Rumors have been swirling for a week, and now the signs are up at the Mall at Short Hills. The Cheesecake Factory will be opening there later this year. Leslie Trifone, mall spokeswoman, said the Cheesecake Factory will be opening in the area where Johnny Rockets was located in either spring or summer of this year. The mall closed early on Sunday and was closed on Monday, but people were back shopping on Tuesday.
The day after Christmas is typically a big day for people to head to the Mall at Short Hills to make returns and take advantage of sales and other deals. But last Sunday the snow was falling by noon in what was the start of a blizzard that dumped nearly two feet of snow on Millburn-Short Hills. It meant people headed home long before the mall was to close, and mall officials had to get ready to rebound after the storm. "We saw fairly decent traffic early, but by 3 p.m. folks were heading out," said Michael McAvinue, Mall at Short Hills general manager. Bobby Gonzalez will avoid criminal charges if he completes 50 hours of community service over the next year.
Former Seton Hall University basketball coach Bobby Gonzalez may be able to avoid criminal charges from a shoplifting incident at the Mall at Short Hills. Gonzalez agreed to enter the pretrial intervention program on Friday, which would allow him to avoid criminal charges, according to Katherine Carter, Essex County prosecutor's office spokeswoman. But she did not disclose the details of the deal. The Associated Press is reporting Gonzalez must be in the program for one year and must perform 50 hours of community service. The troopers work with mall security, speak with shoppers
State Police were at the Mall at Short Hills on Wednesday, but it wasn't in response to any specific emergency. The troopers were joined by several Millburn police officers for a Target Hardening Response and Emergency Activation Teams (THREAT) detail. They were handing out information to shoppers about THREAT, which is a "deployment of state, county and local police resources with the mission to mitigate potential terrorist activity."
