Report: Millburn High Ranked 15th in New Jersey, 225th in Country

The school drops three spots in this year's U.S. News and World Reports Best High Schools ranking — still in top 10 percent of schools across the state.

Millburn High School dropped three spots to 15th throughout New Jersey in this year's U.S. News and World Report’s Best High Schools ranking released Tuesday. In the fifth edition of the ranking, Millburn’s national ranking on the list was 225th out of 21,000, down 11 spots from the previous year. The school did receive a gold medal from the publication for how it compared to other schools based on U.S. News ranking criteria. However in STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, a recent hot topic for the district — Millburn High jumped more than 60 spots nationally to 99th. So why is it that these issues have been discussed regularly for the past 3 years and yet the folks in MBSH continue to re-elect the same BOE members who perpetuate these policies and have offered nothing new to the community except cutting services and programs? Report: Millburn HS Moderately Ranked Among Peers, First in SAT Average

New Jersey school performance reports released recently ranked the high school in the 68th percentile in two categories and 84th percentile in another.

In the recent school performance reports issued by the Christie administration, Millburn High School didn't rank high among peer schools despite being first in average SAT scores.  Statewide, the school was ranked in the 80th percentile in all categories while in its peer group only achieved rank in the 68th percentile in two categories and 84th percentile in another.  The reports ranks the school on three different categories: academic achievement on Language Arts Literacy and Math sections of the New Jersey High School Proficiency Assessment, HSPA, college and career readiness which measures SAT, PSAT and participation in AP courses and graduation and post-secondary graduation and drop out rates.   It also ranks schools against 30 peer …

Hi Dirty Harry, Maybe a more delicate way to communicate what you are saying is that we have in Millburn a high concentration of Type A personalities who may be overly involved in their children's life choices. Millburn Boys Tennis Retains Tournament Crown

The trophy remains in the high school trophy case for the third year running.

Three years ago, Millburn High's head tennis coach, Bill Wickenheisser, created the Millburn Challenge, an invitational tournament held early in the season on home courts. On Saturday, his varsity team once again refused to let the champion's trophy leave town.  This year's visiting teams came from Seton Hall Prep, Chatham High School, and the as-yet-undefeated Bernards High School. In the first round of the tournament, Millburn defeated Seton Hall Prep, and in the finals played Bernards, which had earlier defeated Chatham. Against Seton Hall Prep, the Millers notched five wins. Organizational Meeting for Kiwanis Club Tuesday

The Millburn High School Key Club invites community members to the meeting on Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

The Millburn High School Key Club invites community members to their Second Kiwanis Club Organizational Meeting on Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. On Monday, March 18th, the club held their first community meeting to introduce the initiative to start a new Kiwanis Club in Millburn. Sufficient interest was generated to schedule this second meeting to officially create the new club. Last year, after more than sixty years of providing community service to Millburn, Short Hills and Springfield, the local Kiwanis Club returned its charter and ceased to function. Millburn Forensics Powers Through February with Big Wins

The team is currently ranked third in the nation.

The Millburn Forensics Team, Millburn High School’s largest student organization (with more than 120 active team members), kicked off February with a bang. The team traveled to many tournaments throughout the month, including large national tournaments at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, the Millburn Forensics Team is ranked third in the entire nation, according to debaterankings.com. The month began with junior Chase Harrison named tournament champion in Extemporaneous Speaking, fourth place finalist in Original Orator, and fourth place finalist in Impromptu Speaking on Feb. 2 at the Pennsbury Falcon Invitational in Pennsylvania. Limelight Players Present 'You Can't Take It With You'

Millburn High School Spring Drama premieres this weekend.

The Millburn High School Limelight Players will present its spring production of Kaufman and Hart’s Pulitzer-Prize winning comedy, “You Can’t Take It With You”, beginning this weekend. The performances will take place on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Millburn High School auditorium. Tickets are $10 in advance (until noon Friday), and $12 at the door. Tickets may also be purchased in advance via email at millburnlimelight@gmail.com. High school students can purchase tickets during lunchtime this week. Seats are reserved. Six Students Selected As Presidential Scholars Candidates

Millburn High School students were picked as candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, which honors the most distinguished graduating high school seniors.

Six Millburn High School students, Brannon Cho, Daniel Dembner, Panya Gupta, Saachi Gupta, Alec Tabatchnik and Michael Yuan have been selected as candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The Scholars Program recognizes and honors some of the nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Brannon Cho is a candidate for Presidential Scholar in the Arts.  Approximately 3,000 candidates nationwide are identified based on exceptional scores on either the SAT or the ACT college admission test. Candidates must then submit an application along with essays, recommendations and transcripts to be selected as one of approximately 560 semifinalists which will be announced in mid-April.  The Commission on Presidential Scholars…

MHS Musings: Winter Concert Showcases Bands

This year's winter band concert showcased the hard work of MHS' concert bands and wind ensemble.

It's been a busy year for the Millburn High School bands. They've had a full season of playing at Millers varsity football games, three accelerated recitals (with three more to go this year) and have sent dozens of students to Region I honor bands, multiple students to All-State Ensembles, and even one to the NAfME All National Honor Band. During this time, the bands have been rehearsing for their first concert of the year and have spent months learning, playing, fine-tuning, and perfecting their music. The MHS bands presented their winter concert on Wednesday night to a large crowd in the auditorium. MHS Students Raise $200 For Autism Speaks

Millburn High School students raise money with help from local businesses at this year's Battle of the Classes.

The newly formed Millburn High School Autism Awareness Club raised $200 for Autism Speaks at this year's annual MHS Battle of the Classes Event. The club went around to local Millburn businesses and asked them to donate gift certificates or cards. The students put the donations in a basket and raffled it off at the high school event.  High school students formed the MHS Autism Awareness Club this year to raise awareness of autism and to raise funds for Autism Speaks, the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization.  Participating local businesses: Red Mango, La Strada, The Garage, Splurge Bakery, Bagel Chateau, Charlie Brown's, Starbucks, the Millburn Diner and the Millburn Deli.
