Millburn Minute: Candidate Debate, New Bridge and Championships

A look back at some of the stories from the last week in about a minute.

The candidates for Township Committee debated on Thursday. The first pieces for the new Millburn Avenue bridge were put into place. A teacher evaluation report showed two did not make standard in the Millburn School District. They were not invited back to the district. The Hilton Short Hills re-opened its spa with a star-studded affair. The Fall Festival was at the Farmers Market. The girls tennis team won a sectional title and a Group 3 championship. Tickets are moving quick for "Les Miserables" at the Paper Mill Playhouse.

Millburn Minute: Mall Robbery and Heavy Rain

A look back at some of the top stories of the week in about a minute.

Two men robbed the jewelry section at Saks Fifth Avenue on Sunday. The school board put off a vote on accepting out-of-district students because of space concerns at South Mountain Elementary School. Rain and wind brought down trees and flooded streets on Friday morning. There will be free parking in some downtown lots on Saturdays. And there's lots happening on Sunday in Millburn-Short Hills.

Millburn Minute: TMB Settlement and Food Donations

A look back at the week that was in Millburn-Short Hills in about a minute.

The Township Committee won't sign on to a settlement between Livingston and TMB Partners in the affordable housing case. The Millburn-Short Hills Red Cross food pantry needs donations. Teens and senior citizens made ribbons to get ready for drug awareness week. The Mall at Short Hills and nearby offices were evacuated because of a power outage. School officials received federal job funding, but they're waiting on spending it. Deerfield had a pep rally to kick off the school year. The Paper Mill Playhouse celebrated the opening of its new season with the Hairspray Blowout Bash.

Millburn Minute: Vibrations Downtown

A look back at some of the week's top stories in about a minute.

The downtown bridge construction was making things vibrate in downtown Millburn this week. The Board of Education put off voting on the proposed naming policy so more work can be done. The board did accept the bench to honor former Schools Supt. Richard Brodow. Downtown Millburn has a survey on what day the farmers market should be held. Lightning possibly struck Nancy and David Fine Jewels. Eleven Millburn High School seniors are merit scholar semifinalists. The Paper Mill Playhouse previewed "Hairspray," and it holds an event Sunday to celebrate the play's opening. New Eyes for the Needy volunteers prepared for the Fabulous Finds sale opening on Saturday.

Millburn Minute: Back to School

A look back at the week that was in Millburn-Short Hills in about a minute.

Summer ended and it was back to school for Millburn-Short Hills students. The focus was on the high school, where students celebrated before school before getting down to business. Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo was in town to answer questions about the Millburn Avenue bridge project. The Township Committee has not reached a conclusion on the Livingston-TMB Partners case settlement. The third annual Jake's Ride for Dystonia Research is planned for later this month. And fall sports are kicking off. We've got previews for girls tennis, girls soccer and football with more to come.

Millburn Minute: It's the End of Summer

School opens Tuesday. Here's a look back at some of the big news from last week in under a minute.

Kids got to visit their new schools before classes start on Tuesday. It included an open house for freshmen at Millburn High School. There's a fence on Millburn Avenue near the bridge construction to control pedestrian traffic. Police issued 224 tickets for the no left turn from Millburn Avenue to Main Street. Hurricane Earl threatened, but it stayed away mostly. Firefighters battled a four-alarm fire in Springfield at the Short Hills Village apartments. The pool closes this weekend as summer comes to a close. Enjoy the long weekend.

Millburn Minute: Police Enforcement Downtown

A look back at the week that was in Millburn-Short Hills in about a minute.

Millburn police were downtown enforcing the no left turn from Millburn Avenue onto Main Street. School officials plan to divert buses around the downtown construction. The new teachers had orientation this week. Incoming high school freshmen can attend an open house this coming week. The four-foot python was reunited with its South Orange owner. Paper Mill Playhouse hired a new managing director.

Millburn Minute: Hilton Spa, Speeding and Kid Activities

A look back at the week that was in Millburn-Short Hills in about a minute.

The Hilton Short Hills is planning to re-open its spa in early October. The township received a $10,000 grant for the Taylor Park environmental clean-up, but monitoring wells are still needed. The Millburn police are moving their speeding enforcement campaign to Glen Avenue. Police also are seeking information on an unsolved 2009 burglary on Hartshorn Drive. The house was ransacked. Building permit revenue is up compared to 2009 by approximately $92,000. And there's still plenty of activities for kids happening in town this month.

Millburn Minute: Settlement, Construction and a Night Out

A look back at the week that was in Millburn-Short Hills in about a minute.

The Livingston council approved a settlement in the TMB Partners affordable housing case. The downtown bridge construction was suspended for telephone wire stabilization. Millburn High School's baseball coach resigned, citing parental criticism as his reason for leaving. A new Italian restaurant has been proposed for downtown. Pool memberships are down, but use is up. State officials issued a drought watch and asked people to voluntarily conserve water. And National Night Out was Tuesday.

Millburn Minute: Bridge Construction Begins

A look back at some of the big stories of the last week in about a minute.

The Millburn Avenue bridge construction project started this week downtown bringing with it traffic and pedestrian access changes downtown. Gov. Chris Christie's proposal to cap school superintendent contracts wouldn't affect Millburn for five years if imposed. The Chai Center's zoning hearing continued. The police department's speed enforcement program is moving to White Oak Ridge Road. The Millburn Farmers Market hosted a peach festival. And the Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Conservatory wraps up with its New Voices performances.
