May's Top 10 Stories in Millburn-Short Hills

Residential blasting, unlocked cars burglarized and Rosetta Stone are all on the list.

May was a busy month in Millburn-Short Hills. Here are the top 10 stories in reverse order. After a rocky implementation and months of troubleshooting, Rosetta Stone is currently working and the Millburn elementary schools will continue to use the program, Superintendent Dr. James Crisfield announced at a recent school board meeting.  Five unlocked cars were burglarized overnight in Millburn Saturday with a variety of items taken totaling more than $1,200, according to Capt. Millburn police arrested a 26-year old township resident on drug and alcohol-related charges on Jan. 26 after discovering the man asleep behind the wheel of an idling car, Millburn Police said.  Millburn police are asking for the public's help in identifying a couple believed to be involved in a burglary at a Main Street residence last Friday afternoon, officials said.  Ten unlocked cars were targeted in a string off burglaries Sunday night into Monday morning in Millburn and Short Hills, police said.  The Millburn Board of Education accepted the resignation of board member Jean Pasternak at Monday night's meeting, school officials said Tuesday.  Three cars were burglarized sometime Saturday night into early Sunday morning in Short Hills, …

Millburn-Short Hills organization, Residents for Traffic Safety, write a letter to the editor on their stance against a new supermarket in a recap of their latest forum. Millburn police are searching for a man who stole almost $80,000 in Rolex watches from Ross Simons in The Mall at Short Hills on Nov. 28.  A 65-year-old Chatham man was arrested on Nov. 23 in Short Hills after attempting to leave the scene of multiple accidents at the mall, Millburn police said. Do the math on the new proposed Stop and Shop. Millburn Avenue, almost unstainable at this point, in terms of traffic, at certain times daily, would clearly become impossible to traverse if Stop and Shop came in. Millburn Police recently arrested a Bloomfield man, Guy Colavito, 45, for burglary and theft, after asking for help through media outlets last month.  In this week's Board of Education meeting, the board approved hiring part-time aides as a result of the student enrollment preliminary figures. A Millburn teenager was in critical condition after she was struck by the car of a couple rushing their baby to the hospital, police said. Millburn's first aid squad transported the teenager to University Hospital in Newark, where she is in critical but stable condition, Millburn Police Capt. Michael Palardy said. The 18-year-old, who will be a senior at Millburn High School in the fall, was hit in front of the Haagen-Dazs on Millburn Ave. at 11:20 p.m. July 5.  As summer goes on, many graduates have made up their minds of which college they are off to for their freshman year in the fall.
