Millburn ordinance approves parking limits on Oak Hill Road, Oakview Terrace and Woodland Road near Short Hills train station.
The Millburn Township Committee approved a new ordinance at Tuesday night's meeting that will limit daytime parking on three Short Hills streets to cut down on commuters parking in residential neighborhoods. The committee approved the ordinance to address residents' complaints about parking in neighborhoods near the Short Hills train station instead of designated commuter parking lots. The ordinance will limit parking to three hours between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on: "Now instead of just prohibiting overnight parking, this will prohibit all day parking," Millburn Committeewoman Sari Greenberg said. A Short Hills resident in attendance thanked the committee for the ordinance.

Parking will be prohibited on Essex Street between Lackwanna Avenue and Lot 1.
Construction on the downtown Millburn parking deck will close and limit parking on Essex Street this week, according to township officials. Parking will be prohibited on Essex Street between Lackwanna Avenue and Lot 1, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Essex Street will be limited to one or two lane traffic through Wednesday.

$8 million Plans will be revealed again tonight at Town Hall.
Tonight is your last chance to review the conceptual drawings for two different proposals for a downtown parking deck. The engineering and architecture firm hired to create conceptual plans for a parking deck at the Millburn Train Station will present those plans once more at a public hearing tonight (June 16) at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. Tim Haahs Associates, which has offices in Pennsylvania, Florida, Georgia and New Brunswick, N.J, has previously presented two different plans -- both of which would cost more than $8 million to construct. The chamber's position is the opposite of the opinion of the neighborhood.
While Millburn Train Station neighbors have requested Lot 2, away from their neighborhood, be considered for a parking garage, the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce endorses the garage be built on Lot 7. Shayne Miller, chamber president, issued a statement to the township committee from the chamber supporting the garage on Lot 7, which is along Glen Avenue. The committee is analyzing the options of building the garage at Lot 7 or on Lot 2, which is at the corner of Lackwanna Place and Essex Street. The chamber's two main concerns are freeing up space in Lot 2 currently used for valet and commuter parking to be used for diners and shoppers. The township committee held a public meeting on Tuesday to gather comments on commuter parking.
Residents again said on Tuesday night they want a parking deck built on Lot 2, but there were also questions if a deck should be built at all. The Millburn Township Committee held a public meeting on commuter parking issues. After a short presentation from the commuter parking subcommittee about the process of studying for creating a "long-term solution" to commuter parking, residents were able to ask questions and comment on the issue. The subcommittee is working on potential plans to build a parking deck on either Lot 2 at the corner of Essex Street and Lackawanna Place or on Lot 7, which is along Glen Avenue at the train station. A new ordinance bans parking between Vauxhall Road and Essex Street.
In November, the Millburn Township Committee passed an ordinance banning parking between Vauxhall Road and Essex Street. Well, the signs are now up and police will start enforcing the ordinance soon. The no parking ordinance hasn’t been enforced while police allowed residents to get used to the new rules, but that is to change soon. Police Capt. Greg Weber said the intention was to start ticketing along the stretch after the new year. With the signs up, it means the area is now subject to enforcement. "You park there at your own peril," said Capt. James Miller, police public information officer. The Millburn Township Committee continues to move forward with gathering information to determine how it should address commuter parking, but residents expressed displeasure with the process Tuesday night. The committee approved spending up to $500,000 on design work for a parking garage for the Millburn Train Station during its meeting Tuesday night. Several committee members said authorizing the funding was necessary for its request for proposals on providing designs for the garage. Several Millburn Township Committee members say they want to hear alternatives to address the commuter parking needs.
Millburn Township Committee members aren't expressing support in interviews for a plan that would remove trees for parking at the Short Hills Train Station. Township officials are exploring a plan to change the parallel parking on Chatham Road to head-in parking, but no discussion or decision on the plan is expected until 2011. Orange ribbons were tied around the trees along the side of the road closest to the train tracks to show residents what would need to be removed to make way for the parking. The plan would add 40-60 parking spaces. It's part of a subcommittee's study on adding commuter parking, which also includes studying possibly constructing a parking garage downtown near the Millburn Train Station. Free parking is available in downtown Millburn parking lots through the end of the year.
It's an annual tradition, and this year is no different: free parking is now available in the downtown parking lots every day. Bags have been placed over the meters in Lot 4 on Taylor Street, and the pay machines in Lots 1, 2 and 5 have been turned off. The parking will be free in those lots through Jan. 1. Parking has been free in the lots on Saturdays for a few weeks because of the bridge construction. But if you want to park on the street, you'll still need to pay. The meters on the street will be enforced with the $.25 per 30 minutes rate.

Seems curious to not also designate Stony Lane and Inwood which are an integral part of the area otherwise designated? Also why not include the upper part of Woodland Rd,n Ridge Terrace, Ferncliff and Pine Terrace W and Baltusrol? How did Township Comm zero in on this particular few roads? more ›
