Millburn-Short Hills Scenes: The Oncoming Storm

Rain soaks the area and brings ominous-looking clouds

The sun was out on Wednesday in Millburn-Short Hills, but rain drops did fall. In fact around 5 p.m., a downpour moved through the area, including downtown Millburn. And as quickly the rain started, it stopped. Brett Biebelberg shot these photos as the storm clouds moved into Millburn-Short Hills this afternoon. He was traveling from Taylor Park to the Springfield border at Millburn Avenue and Morris Turnpike and took the photos periodically during his trip. We're looking for your views of Millburn-Short Hills through your camera lens for our "Millburn-Short Hills Scenes" photo series. Send scenic photos with an explanation to jen@patch.com. We'll feature your work on Millburn-Short Hills Patch.

Millburn-Short Hills Scenes: A Rainy Reservation

The river is rough and in some spots causing ponding on Brookside

Thursday's heavy rains caused for the water to be rough along the West Branch of the Rahway River, including in South Mountain Reservation. In some spots the reservation's ponds flowed over into the roadway, causing some ponding. There were other spots of ponding on Brookside in the reservation, although not near the river, and there was ponding on some other roadways in Millburn-Short Hills. We're looking for your views of Millburn-Short Hills through your camera lens for our "Millburn-Short Hills Scenes" photo series. Send scenic photos with an explanation to jen@patch.com. We'll feature your work on Millburn-Short Hills Patch.

Millburn-Short Hills Scenes: A Flowery Fountain

The sun comes out on a rainy day

Friday started with rain and gloom, but the sun was out by the afternoon although some dark clouds lingered. But the fountains were still on in The Courtyard in downtown Millburn. We're looking for your views of Millburn-Short Hills through your camera lens for our "Millburn-Short Hills Scenes" photo series. Send scenic photos with an explanation to jen@patch.com. We'll feature your work on Millburn-Short Hills Patch.

Editor's Notebook: Show Us Your Millburn-Short Hills

Show us a unique side of your hometown

Driving around town at all hours of the day, I've noticed there's a unique, diverse beauty to Millburn-Short Hills. That beauty can provide opportunities for spectacular photography. An example is the photograph you see here. I shot this photo (with a point-and-shoot camera) while standing in the Taylor Street parking lot Monday evening walking to my car before heading to the Board of Education meeting. It's the spire of First Baptist Church peeking above the trees shadowed against the sunset. I want to highlight scenic photos like this one. I know there are some wonderful photographers in Millburn-Short Hills and many people carry their cameras with them. If you see something special, take a photo. Then send it to us via e-mail at jen@…

Girl Scouts, others help pick up trash in first of weekend clean-up events

Several Girl Scout troops and other groups spent time on Friday afternoon picking up trash in Taylor Park. It was the first of a weekend of clean-up events throughout Millburn-Short Hills. Among the groups in the park on Friday were 24 girls from Brownie Troop 430 and several mothers. The troop is from South Mountain Elementary, and the girls are in third grade. There are other clean-ups throughout the weekend. On Saturday, you can also help at Gilbert Place at 9 a.m. to noon, at Old Short Hills Park at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Short Hills Rail Station area and Slayton Field. Street Fair Entertains Many

Millburn Avenue was a crowded scene

Crowds of people filtered down a closed Millburn Avenue Sunday to visit the annual Street Fair and Craft Show, which is sponsored by the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce. Vendors lined the streets selling crafts or services, and community organizations were on hand to provide information. There was plenty to eat ranging from hot dogs and hamburgers to funnel cakes and fried Oreos. There were pony rides for children and music to entertain the crowds.

PHOTOS: Enjoying the Weather

Warm weather means people are outside, especially kids

With temperatures in the 60s and 70s on Thursday and Friday, kids headed to the town's playgrounds to have some fun. Some did acrobatics on the swings while others made chalk drawings. Temperatures are again going to be in the 70s on Saturday, which means the parks and playgrounds will be crowded. Temperatures will be cooler on Sunday.

PHOTOS: Thursday in the Park

Busy afternoon in Taylor Park

Taylor Park was a crowded, busy place Thursday afternoon. After several days of rain and cloudy weather, the sun was out with temperatures in the 60s. Temperatures are expected to be around 70 degrees Friday and Saturday before dipping back into the 50s on Sunday. The sun is expected to be out on Sunday, though, for the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce's annual street fair.

PHOTOS: Finally Feeling Like Spring Break

Thursday's weather was more spring-like than the rest of the week

It's been spring break for Millburn-Short Hills children all week, but Thursday's weather was the first day that it felt like spring with temperatures in the 60s. Temperatures are cooler on Friday, however, with rain in the forecast for the afternoon and evening. Students are back to school on Monday.

PHOTO: Magnolia In Bloom

Magnolias are among the trees in bloom

Millburn resident Odarka Polanskyj Stockert, best known for playing harp at Cafe Monet on Sundays, snapped this photo of a Star Magnolia during her visit at Reeves-Reed Arboretum in Summit last weekend. Plenty of flowers and trees are in bloom now to welcome spring. If you have photos that you want to share, e-mail them to us and we'll post the best ones.
