Millburn police arrested Starlett Davis, 27, of Brooklyn, on fraud charges at The mall at Short Hills Saturday.
Police arrested a 27-year-old Brooklyn woman Saturday after she allegedly attempted to purchase a designer purse with a fraudulent credit card in The mall at Short Hills, Millburn police said. According to Capt. Michael Palardy, Starlett Davis was arrested on May 11 on fraud charges at about 2 p.m. Davis attempted to buy a Yves Saint Laurent Bo Sac De Jour purse, valued at $3,156.50, from Nordstrom with a Bank of America card containing a different name, police said. Davis showed the assistant manager a Florida driver's license with Davis's photo but with a different name and information matching the credit card, police said. Millburn Police recently arrested a Bloomfield man, Guy Colavito, 45, for burglary and theft, after asking for help through media outlets last month. The burglary investigation started Aug. 1, when power tools were stolen from a residence on Highview Road in Short Hills. Police believed him to be a local construction worker. Police released Calavito's photo to media outlets on Aug. 15 in an attempt to identify him and last week the public responded. Calavito was found and arrested for the Highview Road robbery Thursday, Aug. 30. According to Captain Michael Palardy, a viewer recognized Colavito while watching News 12 and called police. The attempted arrest of a suspected shoplifter resulted with a footchase through The Mall at Short Hills and through a a couple of levels of the “C” Parking Deck on Friday. As police attempted to arrest Ramel Ervin of Brooklyn, who was suspected of an earlier shoplifting incident at True Religion, Ervin broke free and took off running. Millburn Police Officers Travis Jiroux and Christopher DeRosa chased him and ordered him to stop but he exited through the entrance at Paparazzi’s into the parking deck, according to the police report. Several officers joined in the chase and DeRosa and Officer Jamal Poyner eventually apprehended Ervin and placed him under arrest. Millburn Police worked a residential burglary and an attempted residential burglary and the case of a two stolen bikes from a residence on Friday, as well as a vehicle burglary and theft from the mall on Thursday. The owners of a home on Walnut Avenue in Millburn called police after returning home around 6 p.m. Friday, March 9, to find that the glass in the back door had been shattered with a rock and then removed so that someone could get inside. The police report by Officer Andrew Delrusso states that the closets and dresser drawers had been ransacked and that clothing and jewelry were missing. The Millburn Police Department reports that during the last week three homes were broken into. In each of the home burglaries, several rooms were ransacked and items, including jewelry, were taken. A medical office also reported the left of a laptop, but there were no signs of forced entry. Here are the cases on this week’s police blotter:

The Millburn Police Department investigated several burglaries – of businesses, a home and a vehicle in the last week. They also made arrests in a shoplifting case and in the case of two men allegedly trying to install illegal credit card readers on gas pumps at the Sunoco on Millburn Avenue that could have resulted in the theft of identity and credit card numbers. The Millburn Police Department responded on Monday night to The Mall at Short Hills on a report of a stolen car. When they got there at 8:05 p.m., a Livingston resident told them his 4-door black Audi was stolen from parking area D-2 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. This vehicle was later recovered in Newark. Police also three vehicle burglary cases and several shoplifting cases in the last week, as reported in this week’s blotter:

South Orange Police, working with Millburn and other jurisdictions, have made an arrest in a Millburn vehicle burglary case from earlier this month. On Saturday, the South Orange Police Department arrested Lonnie J. Askew, 40, who had been identified by Millburn police as involved in the burglary of a vehicle on Jan. 6 on Wyoming Avenue, said Millburn Police Public Information Officer Lt. Pete Eakley. In that case, a Millburn resident reported seeing someone breaking into her vehicle around 10 p.m. The vehicle was parked in her driveway and the resident immediately contacted the Millburn Police Department, Eakley said.
