Pasternak Resigns from Board of Education

Jean Pasternak resigns to focus on family matters leaving a seat open on the board.

The Millburn Board of Education accepted the resignation of board member Jean Pasternak at Monday night's meeting, school officials said Tuesday.  District Communications Coordinator Nancy Dries said Pasternak was resigning to focus on family and other personal reasons.  Pasternak, who has served on the board for the past two years, submitted her letter of resignation to the district's business administrator, Steven DiGeronimo, on Friday Feb. 7. The school board will place an ad in the Item newspaper for interested residents to submit a letter to DiGeronimo. Pasternak’s term expires in 2014.

She did not go along with the majority because she represented the interests of the community and students; she understood who put her in office. The rest of them show time and time again they represent the interests of the employees over community and students (e.g.they took away your century-old right to vote on the school budget, remember "Not a Fan" or did that conveniently slip your mind?).   more ›

Shock and Sympathy in Millburn-Short Hills on Pope Benedict's Resignation

Short Hills priest was surprised about the news yet understanding of Pope Benedict's resignation. What do you think about his move and the effect it will have on the Church?

Pope John Paul was a hard act to follow, but his successor, Pope Benedict XVI, has done his best to fill the shoes as head of the Roman Catholic Church for the last eight years. Today the Vatican announced that the 85-year-old pope will resign by the end of February because of his inability to fulfill the duties of his office. The pontiff said his strength "has deteriorated" in the last few months, according to a CNN report. It will be the first time in 600 years that a pope has resigned, rather than die, in office. It may also mean huge changes ahead for the Catholic Church. Many Catholics were taken aback by the news, and expressed sympathy for the pope but were confident it wouldn't effect the church too much.  "I was just very shocked …
