The Summit Fire Department responded to a car fire on Route 124 (Morris Turnpike) in Millburn Sunday afternoon about 1:15 p.m. An eyewitness said two engines responded to the fire that burned an SUV and left traffic backed up for a quarter mile. Police are investigating a string of burglaries and attempted burglaries into businesses along Route 124 in Short Hills that occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Millburn police officers who were investigating burglary at Mailboxes Etc, where someone broke-in through the rear door, they canvassed the area and discovered that someone had tried to pry open the rear doors of several other businesses, including Loehmann’s Shoes, Innovation Optics, the Health Food Mart. While investigating, police found that the front door of Loehmann's was unlocked but an intial search of the building appeared that nothing was disturbed inside.
