Shoplifter Had $7K in Counterfeit Cash, Cops Say

Martin Coleman, 26, of Newark, was charged with shoplifting from The Mall at Short Hills Tuesday afternoon, police said.

A Newark man was found with $7,000 in counterfeit cash when he was arrested for shoplifting Tuesday at The Mall at Short Hills, Millburn Police said. According to Capt. Michael Palardy, Martin Coleman, 26, of Newark, was charged with shoplifting from Louis Vuitton at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.  Store employees said Coleman switched a pair of Louis Vuitton sunglasses with a cheaper pair and left the store with the $620 glasses in his shopping bag, police said. Coleman said he did not have the the sunglasses, police said. After police watched the video surveillance in the store, Coleman was arrested, according to the report. Officers searched Coleman and found the stolen sunglasses and four cash rolls totaling $7,000 in a bank envelop, police …

Police Report Thefts at Short Halls Mall This Weekend

Woman took $900 in merchandise from Gucci, while man stole misplaced iPhone from Brookstone.

Millburn police are looking for a woman and a man in connection with two separate alleged shoplifting incidents this past weekend in the Mall at Short Hills, officials said.  According to Millburn police, three women walked in to the Gucci store in the mall at about 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.  One of the store's managers told police as the women walked around the store he saw one of the women take three belts and put them in her Louis Vuitton purse, each valued at $300.  According to the report, the manager told one of his employees to lock the door leading back into the mall. The women walked to the exit, unlocked the door and walked out of the store into the mall.  When police arrived, officers searched for the three women but couldn't …

Brookstone: the right thing to do would be to put the iPhone (or any item someone leaves behind) in the back and for the rightful owner to come forward with proof that this is his/her phone. Man Arrested After Allegedly Robbing Mall Store with Gun

Nathaniel Osagie, 18, of Livingston, allegedly pointed BB gun at clothing store employee in The Mall at Short Hills demanding merchandise Monday afternoon, police say.

An 18-year-old Livingston man allegedly used a gun to rob a clothing store in The Mall at Short Hills Monday afternoon, Millburn officials said.  Nathaniel Osagie was arrested at about 3:30 p.m. on April 15 on robbery and three weapon charges, Capt. Bernie Neuhaus said Tuesday.  According to the report, police responded to the mall on a report of a man who pointed a handgun at an employee of the store True Religion.  When police arrived, Osagie was seen in the parking lot with what police believed was a handgun in his front pants pocket. Osagie was arrested without incident. Macy's Employee Arrested Trying to Steal Eight Shirts

Samuel Bernard, 22, of Maplewood, was arrested for shoplifting from Macy's in Mall at Short Hills.

A Macy's employee was arrested Monday afternoon for allegedly attempting to steal eight t-shirts from the Mall at Short Hills store, Millburn police said.  Samuel Bernard, 22, of Maplewood was arrested for shoplifting at about 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 18. According to the report, Bernard was seen by security putting four INC shirts under his jacket prior to leaving for his break. Macy's security told police Bernard put the four shirts in his car. At about 5 p.m., Bernard tried to hide four more INC shirts under his jacket and leave the store again, the report said.  Security stopped Bernard from leaving the store the second time and retrieved the stolen shirts from his car.  Bernard was arrested and released pending a municipal court date in …

Police Arrest Three Shoplifters at Mall

Juan Morales, 42, of Madison, Rodney Hooker, 27, of Newark, and Wonmo Suh, 34, of New Brunswick, were arrested in three different shoplifting incidents at The Mall at Short Hills.

Three men involved in separate shoplifting incidents at The Mall at Short Hills on Saturday have been arrested, Millburn police said.  In the first arrest, Juan Morales, 42, of Madison, was arrested for attempting to shoplift $1,042.50 of merchandise with a pair of pliers from Saks Fifth Avenue on Feb. 2, police said. Morales attempted to walk out of the store with a concealed Zanga shirt, valued at $147.50, and a Versace jacket, valued at $895, at about 5:30 p.m, police said. The store's security personnel caught Morales and detained him until police arrived. Millburn police searched Morales and found a pair of cutting pliers in his shopping bag. Man Steals Almost $80,000 in Rolexes, Police Say

Two watches were stolen from The Mall at Short Hills last week when the security guard went on lunch break.

Millburn police are searching for a man who stole almost $80,000 in Rolex watches from Ross Simons in The Mall at Short Hills on Nov. 28.  The theft, which occurred at about 6:24 p.m., happened as the stores security guard stepped away for his lunch break.  According to police, the man entered the store at 6:12 p.m. and asked a sales associate to see two watches. The man put one of the watches on and walked over to a mirror. When the man returned to the sales associate, police said, he grabbed the second watch and ran out of the store. The sales associate told police one watch was a rose gold Rolex, valued at $40,550. The other watch was a $37,550 white gold Rolex. Police described the shoplifter as a thin black man, approximately 5 feet…

Black Friday Crowds Steady at Short Hills, Livingston

Essex County malls busy, but not overcrowded most of the day.

Essex County's two malls—Short Hills and Livingston—had a steady stream of shoppers throughout Black Friday. However, staggered store openings helped to keep the lines to a minimum Friday morning in Short Hills. By the early afternoon, Livingston was busy, but not overcrowded.

Mom Takes Her Three Kids Shoplifting

Police say a Brooklyn mom tried to steal 14 items from Bloomingdales in Short Hills.

A Brooklyn women was arrested, while with her three children, for attempting to steal $1,099 worth of merchandise from Bloomingdales in the Short Hills Mall, Millburn police said.  The Brooklyn resident, Mei S. Yip, was seen by Bloomingdales employees picking up 14 items while walking around the store on Aug. 24.  Yip then entered a fitting room with the merchandise. Upon leaving the fitting room, she was seen with a full Bloomingdales's bag. Employees said she didn't have the bag when she went into the dressing room. The Bloomingdales employee checked the dressing room Yip was in and could not find any of the merchandise.  Yip and her children were stopped as she tried to leave the store passing multiple registers, the employee said. …

Westfield Girl's Lemonade Stand Goes to the Dogs

Zoe Clemson is offering lemonade and cookies in exchange for donations to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center.

Nine-year-old Zoe Clemson and her mother, Rose, will be busy this weekend making chocolate chip cookies and lemonade. But the Westfield residents won't be keeping the treats for themselves.
