South Orange Village Hires Former Downtown Millburn Executive Director

Former Downtown Millburn Development Alliance Executive Director, Lisa Hackett, will run the South Orange Village Center Alliance.

The South Orange Village Center Alliance has a new director to go with its new look and logo. Lisa Hackett takes the helm as Executive Director on Tuesday. Hackett served until fall as Downtown Millburn Development Alliance Executive Director. For updates on this story, check the Patch's Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. Updated 1:57 p.m. New Jersey Transit has suspended the Morris and Essex train lines until further notice.  According to its website, "flooding in Kearny has caused rail washouts making rail traffic impassable." *NJ Transit's twitter account stated on Thurday, "I can assure you it will not be more than a week, possibly sooner." Help your neighbors find the best routes to work with suspended trains lines and delayed buses by adding your route in the comments. Add an estimated time so residents can plan. With the train lines out of service, NJ Transit provided a list of bus lines that parallel train lines to accommodate those who need to travel to New York …

Cryan's Ale House Celebrates 30th Anniversary

South Orange landmark will feature live music, food and drink specials at Friday festivities.

It’s been the home of St. Patrick’s Day parties, political gatherings, and funeral repasts. Cryan’s Beef and Ale House – a homey Irish pub on South Orange’s 1st Street – will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Friday. If the walls could talk, they would tell stories of family-friendly dining, gatherings of Seton Hall University students, and some eclectic happenings from over the years. The festivities will kick off at 4 p.m. with a complimentary supper buffet until 6 p.m. and $3 drinks all night. "Amazing Art and Wonderful Willie," the first band to perform at Cryan’s 30 years ago, will play dance music from several decades until 8 p.m. The duo is comprised of longtime Maplewoodians Art and Willie Gartenlaub. Reservation Wails with the Blues

Hundreds of people gather for the second South Orange International Blues Festival — in the South Mountain Reservation for the first time.

The blues vibrated throughout South Mountain Reservation on Sunday, where hundreds of concert-goers enjoyed the scene from the park lawn and dozens of musicians jammed away from afternoon through evening at the second annual South Orange International Blues Festival. Festival creator Michael Griot, a bass player, said he organized the free concert as a way to share the great music he's heard and performed at other music festivals throughout the country and the globe. Last year, the blues festival was held at Floods Hill in South Orange. Griot said the musicians played in the rain for an audience of about 400 people.
