Roger Manshel stepped down last weekend.
Stop & Shop officials delayed the hearing about site plans for the proposed supermarket on Millburn Avenue until the township's zoning board of adjustment has a full board of seven member, the Item of Millburn-Short Hills reported. The decision was made after board member Roger Manshel resigned to pursue other obligations this past weekend, the report said. Although there are still six board members and two alternates, board chairman Joseph Steinberg and vice chairman Michael Parlavecchio have both recused themselves from the hearings. "I believe we're going to wait until the Millburn Zoning Board has a full board," Stephen Reid, a community relations representative for Stop & Shop, told the Item.

To Millburn-Short Hills Patch: About 20-25 residents attended the Residents For Traffic Safety forum on Thursday, November 29 to express their concerns, ask questions, and offer their ideas regarding the Stop & Shop development planned to be built on Millburn Avenue. Generally, the comments centered around public safety and lowering of the quality of life in the area due to the greatly increased car and truck traffic that the supermarket will draw. As resident Mary Fran Johnson stated, ”I can’t believe that an additional 6,000 cars a day would NOT have an impact on the quality of our neighborhood and town.” Attendees agreed that all trucks should not be required to enter and exit on Millburn Avenue and that there should be a traffic …

Residents For Traffic Safety, RFTS, have scheduled a public forum for residents to share their concerns about the impact of the proposed Stop & Shop supermarket development at the former Saks Fifth Avenue site on Millburn Avenue. The forum is set for Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Millburn Public Library, from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. At the Oct. 1 Millburn Zoning Board meeting, Stop & Shop’s traffic engineer testified that 6,150 cars would come to the supermarket each weekday. That would mean 61,500 vehicle movements entering and exiting the site from Millburn Avenue just during the week. Also, the traffic engineer said that there will be up to 180 tractor trailers and vendor trucks entering and exiting on Millburn Avenue Monday through Saturday. …

A woman was hit by a car in Millburn recently while legally crossing Main Street in front of Starbucks. On March 26 a 14 year old boy was struck by a car in downtown Millburn. Students were hit by cars near the Millburn Middle School and on White Oak Ridge Road in May, 2011. In February 2011 a 32 year old man was struck on Millburn Avenue near Campbell Road. We all know that cars speed on Millburn Avenue in the downtown area every day. Why aren’t the police stopping speeders? Why are drivers holding and using cell phones? Why aren’t drivers checking the crosswalk before turning a corner? What will happen when Stop & Shop opens a supermarket on Millburn Avenue? In the 1970’s and early 1980’s a policeman directed traffic at the …

A testimony tells the town, traffic on Millburn Avenue will not increase much due to the proposed Stop & Shop. Tell us what you think in the comments.
A traffic expert and principal engineer for Stop & Shop, Dan Disario, told the Zoning Board, in its most recent meeting, the construction of the proposed Stop & Shop on Millburn Avenue will not create much more traffic in town. However, after a lengthly hearing, where most left, the few Millburn and Springfield residents that stayed argued it would. "The fact that we are putting in a new supermarket at this site, is not going to all of a sudden create all of these new shopping trips to this supermarket," Disario said as his opinion in response to the public. The report he presented shows an under 10 percent increase in traffic on Millburn Avenue at peak hours. Yet, the study did not examine traffic patterns at the intersections of Morris …

The long awaited presentation will discuss residents' issues with truck traffic on Millburn Avenue.
After two months of waiting, Stop & Shop officials will give a presentation addressing residents' concerns of added truck traffic as a result of the new food store on Millburn Avenue at the Zoning Board meeting tonight. The Stop & Shop is proposed for the old Saks Fifth Avenue location, 92 Millburn Ave. in Short Hills. Even though that property is located in Springfield, Millburn has jurisdiction on the 20-foot piece of land entering the property, the township engineer, Thomas Watkinson, said. Residents and Watkinson have raised concerns of traffic safety with the proposed plan. The new food store would create more truck traffic on Millburn Avenue and would require the trucks to make a hard right from Morris Avenue. The Short Hills …

Dear Editor, With Trader Joe's at the Wyoming Avenue end of Millburn Avenue and Stop & Shop at the Morris Turnpike end, Millburn will have two magnet/anchor stores that will assure greater foot and traffic flow end to end. With the new additional Millburn parking sites, foot traffic will increase in town. Potential shoppers will be able to explore our beautiful town as never before. Sales will increase and all town merchants will benefit, especially restaurants. If Millburn cannot share in Springfield's Stop & Shop tax revenue, Millburn will benefit from the increase in town business tax revenue as millburn-short hills will go through an economic revitalization. And let's take into considerations the new Stop& Shop will mean jobs in these …
