If you want the best Black Friday deals, you'll barely have enough time to gobble down your turkey; forget about your pumpkin pie. Stores are opening earlier than ever on Thanksgiving to grab Black Friday shoppers. Toys 'R Us, Walmart, Kmart and Sears open their doors at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Target opens at 9 p.m. Many others open at midnight or very early Friday morning. Several stores are offering waves of doorbusters. Many also are advertising online deals, which include free shipping, and Black Friday prices all day Thanksgiving. Peanut Butter products recall comes to Millburn-Short Hills area: Target, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods
A voluntary recall has been issued for additional peanut and nut products manufactured by Sunland, Inc., due to a salmonella risk. A number of the products are sold locally at Trader Joe's and Target. A Food and Drug Administration voluntary recall that started with peanut butter sold at Trader Joe's has expanded to include almond butter, cashew butter, tahnini and roasted blanched peanut products manufactured by the New Mexico company. According to the Food and Drug Administration’s website, the recall is limited to products manufactured between May 1, 2012 and Sept. 24, 2012. Local shoppers look to Target for convenience shopping on clothes and housewares. Now the big box sells groceries, too.
"It's not Harrods Food Hall," said Jennie Cane, South Orange resident and longtime Londoner, as she surveyed Target's new grocery area, "but it's convenient to pick up some fruit and juice with the diapers and wipes." Target, on Springfield Avenue in Union, draws shoppers from surrounding communities like Millburn, Maplewood, South Orange for the few items we can't get easily in town. The store just finished renovations to include a grocery section, adding produce and fresh meats to the stock of dry goods already on the shelves. Many items, such as the refrigerated pizza, iced cookies, and shredded cheese in Cane's cart, are Target's own brand.
