Do you make a non-conventional dessert? Side dish? Main course? Tell us about it!
While the “traditional” Thanksgiving dinner usually consists of turkey and trimmings, we have all established different traditions through the years. That said: Do you bake or cook anything that strays from conventional Turkey Day cuisine? Perhaps it is a dessert, a side dish – or maybe even the main course. We are looking for your non-traditional recipes to share with our Patch readers. Please e-mail them (and pictures) to bfalzarano.patch@gmail.com and we will publish them early next week. And, of course, feel free to share below in the comments.

The theme of this year's annual Thanksgiving assembly at Millburn Middle School was feeding the hungry. It's a mission undertaken by MMS students in their monthly visits to the Morristown Soup Kitchen. John Rogers, MMS Guidance Coordinator, spoke to the assembled students on Wednesday about this important outreach program. "The number of hungry people in New Jersey would fill Giant Stadium 9½ times," he told students. He reminded them the people who are fed at the soup kitchen are not always homeless but people who may be trying to save their homes "Often a smile and a kind word may be just as important as the meal provided," he said. Students then saw a short film about the Morristown Soup Kitchen and the work they do. The Peer Leader …

The owners of the Village Wine Shop in Maplewood give suggestions on what wine to pair with the turkey
When you consider trying to pair one wine with all the varied flavors found on a traditional Thanksgiving table — from sweet to savory, bold to mild — it's enough to make you, well, whine. Luckily, locals have easy access to two folks who can make choosing a wonderful wine wonderfully easy: Alan and Rosetta Weiser at Village Wine Shop in Maplewood. According to Alan, you're not alone if you're up in the air about what wine to serve come Thursday. "Everbody seems to put it off until the last possible minute," he said. "We do 95 percent of our Thanksgiving business on the day before —Wednesday." As complicated as the flavors in a typical Turkey Day menu might seem, the solution for settling upon a perfect wine pairing is pretty …

The organization collects food and monetary donations at Kings Super Market.
Shoppers headed to Kings Super Market on Saturday to buy provisions for Thanksgiving, and the Community Food Bank also was there with the same mission. Volunteers were at the grocery store on Saturday to collect frozen turkeys and non-perishable food donations and to raise money. "Since I started doing this four or five years ago, people at this location have been really generous," said Molly Lenz, the turkey drive captain and a volunteer for the Community Food Bank. "People can also go online to give, as we have a virtual food drive. You can enter a dollar amount and it shows you how many pounds of foods that money will buy. " The Community Food Bank of New Jersey runs several programs like the backpack program that gives kids non-…
