Seventh-Grader Prepares as Understudy at Millburn Playhouse

Jonathan Charette sits down with Patch to explain how he manages studying for school while preparing to be two understudies.

Jonathan Charette is 13-year-old from Short Hills who studies, plays tennis and hangs out with his friends just like most seventh-graders.  However, for 16 hours a week Charette does something a little unique for his age – he acts as an understudy for two roles in the Paper Mill Playhouse's winter musical, "The Sound of Music". Paper Mill Comes Alive with 'The Sound of Music'

Enjoyable revival sets festive tone for the holidays

Despite its utter lack of thematic connection to the holiday season, “The Sound of Music” always feels like a good fit when the sleigh bells start to ring. Paper Mill Playhouse scored a hit with this beloved family musical in 2003, when it closed on Dec. 14. This year, it’s back with full billing as a limited holiday engagement, which will extend to Dec. 30. James Brennan, who directed the 2003 revival, is back with an all new cast and a more attractive and three-dimensional set. No need to rank which production was better because what we have, here and now, is a perfectly timed tribute to the magic of live theater and a worthy successor to the legacy of the final triumph authored by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Millburn's Playhouse Hosts Auditions For "The Sound of Music"

Paper Mill Playhouse announces its children’s auditions for the theater’s next musical production.

The Paper Mill Playhouse is hosting children auditions for its next production, "The Sound of Music", on Saturday.  Audition sign up start the theater’s lobby on a first-come, first-served basis onwith a line beginning at 8 a.m. The playhouse looking for girls ages 6-16 and boys who look ages 12-16.  Children and their guardian should join the line in front of the theater and enter through the front doors of the theater only.  Sign up for ages 6 to 11 begin at 9 a.m. and sign up for ages 12 to 16 begin at 12 p.m. Auditions are non-union. “The last time Paper Mill Playhouse held an open-call audition for children in The Sound of Music, we discovered a talented young man by the name of Nick Jonas,” Paper Mill Playhouse’s Producing Artistic …
