The Millburn High School auditorium was the place to be on Wednesday to watch the Millburn choral and orchestral ensembles present their Winter Concert. The groups have been practicing since the first week of school. The concert, under the direction of orchestra director Karen Conrad and choral director Rodrigo Vega, opened with the Cantica Nova, Millburn's 53-strong freshman chorus, the biggest it's been in recent history. The ensemble, which rehearses daily during fourth period, began with the Ghanaian rhythmic folk piece "Pete Pete!," which implemented African folk techniques of call-and-response. The Millburn Middle School choruses will perform classical selections, show tunes, holiday favorites, and songs from around the world in their annual Winter Chorus Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the MS Auditorium. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. The program will open with the Sixth Grade Chorus singing a winter favorite, Jingle Bells, featuring soloists Shmide Price and Sarah Burn. A holiday selection sung in Yiddish, Nes Gadol Haya Sham, will follow, after which the chorus will sing The Snow Has a Song. The sixth graders will close their portion of the program with Jazzy Saint Nick. Orchestra and Choruses will perform
The Millburn High School Orchestra and Choruses will present their Winter Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m in the High School auditorium. The Ninth Grade Chorus, Cantica Nova, will perform a set including folk songs from Ghana and Hungary, and a setting of the poem “If Music Be the Food of Love” by Andrew Miller. “Pete, Pete!” from Ghana and “Hey, for the Dancing” from Hungary, both have an emphasis on rhythm but in two very different styles. Erroll Garner’s “Misty,” an American jazz standard, has quickly become part of the American songbook. The Millburn Chorale will perform a set of choral classics. Included are R. V. Williams’ arrangement of “The Turtle Dove” and Mark Hayes’ arrangement of “Over the Rainbow.” The …

Various MMS choral groups sang to celebrate the holidays.
Millburn Middle School held its annual winter chorus concert on Wednesday night to celebrate the holidays. There were six featured groups that performed for the audience of parents and friends. The Sixth Grade Chorus sang several songs based on children's favorites. The Seventh Grade Chorus sang several carols and songs, several in other languages. The Eighth Grade Chorus performed several carols and songs from other countries. The combined Seventh and Eighth Grade Girls Chorus sange two song, and the Seventh and Eighth Grade Boys Chorus also sang two songs. The MMS Select Chorus closed the program with a medley of tunes from the musical "Hair."
