Millburn Sports: 19 Titles, 2 Undefeated Teams, 19 State Qualifiers This Year

Check out all the awards, championships and records of the 29 Millburn High School varsity teams from this past school year.

As this year's school year comes to an end, Millburn High School sports have won 19 championships with 17 teams finishing with records of .500 or better.  Boys Cross Country and Girls Golf finished with impressive undefeated seasons. Out of the 29 teams: the high school earned 10 Conference Championships, two County Championships, three Sectional Championships, three Group Championships and one Tournament of Champions Title. Millburn-Short Hills Year-In-Review

Principal to Retire from Hartshorn Hartshorn Prinicpal Ron Castaldo will retire at the end of this school year. According to a letter he sent to parents today, Castaldo, who has been a principal at Hartshorn for 16 years and has worked in public education in New Jersey for 43 years, he will begin his retirement July 1. Business Review: Downtown Sees More Shops Open

The comings and goings of local businesses around town.

2011 brought a lot of movement among businesses in Millburn and Short Hills. Despite a tough economy that brought an end to some businesses, many optimistic entrepreuers opened new business, and other shops and restaurants  are in the works. After a spell with a lot empty storefronts downtown, Millburn is now at about 85 percent occupancy, said outgoing president of Downtown Millburn John Buchholz. New stores have opened and other stores and restaurants are moving. And Tinga is still working to re-open after being wiped out by the raging Rahway floodwaters from Irene on Aug. 28. "We're excited about what's going on downtown," said Downton Millburn's new executive director Lisa Hackett, whose offices are moving from the location on Millburn…

The stories in 2010 didn't necessarily bring out the national media, like at least one of the top stories in 2009, but there were plenty of things that caught headlines in Millburn-Short Hills this last year. Some of the stories caused people to turn out to public meetings to voice their concerns. Others brought you here to Millburn-Short Hills Patch to comment, like redistricting stories that prompted hundreds of comments. And still others marked major change for the township. A look back at some of the stores that opened and closed in Millburn-Short Hills in 2010.

The economy has been tough for many businesses, which has forced them to shut their doors or move. But it hasn't meant stores have stayed empty. Many new stores also opened in Millburn-Short Hills in 2010 too. From bakeries to gift stores, they offered a variety of services and new wares for shoppers. Some also offered debate, like if there are too many Italian restaurants in town. The Rise of the Downtown Bakery The year started with one bakery in downtown Millburn—Bella's Bakery. The shop, which opened in 2009, caters to families with nut allergies offering treats without then. But now at the end of 2010 there are two more bakeries joining Bella's. A look at the top 10 sports moments of 2010.

It has been a year of championship glory for the Millburn High School athletic teams. The Millers captured three Group 3 titles, two county championships, three sectional championships and a District 10 individual wrestling championship. The last year has also seen the graduation of some of the best Miller athletes in the school's history, with milestone upon milestone being reached. Here are the top 10 Millburn sports moments of 2010. 1. Girls soccer captures first ever Group 3 title (Nov. 20): Some may call it a season of destiny, others might call it a season of perseverance.
