Stop & Shop officials delayed the hearing about site plans for the proposed supermarket on Millburn Avenue until the township's zoning board of adjustment has a full board of seven member, the Item of Millburn-Short Hills reported. The decision was made after board member Roger Manshel resigned to pursue other obligations this past weekend, the report said. Although there are still six board members and two alternates, board chairman Joseph Steinberg and vice chairman Michael Parlavecchio have both recused themselves from the hearings. "I believe we're going to wait until the Millburn Zoning Board has a full board," Stephen Reid, a community relations representative for Stop & Shop, told the Item.

Residents for Traffic Safety urges residents to voice their opinion in the next Zoning Board meeting on Jan. 28.
The hearing on the proposed Stop and Shop, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 17, is now set for the Jan. 28 Millburn Zoning Board Meeting. Residents for Traffic Safety urges those concerned with the impact on traffic, safety and quality life to attend and actively participate when public questioning begins. The long awaited presentation will discuss residents' issues with truck traffic on Millburn Avenue.
After two months of waiting, Stop & Shop officials will give a presentation addressing residents' concerns of added truck traffic as a result of the new food store on Millburn Avenue at the Zoning Board meeting tonight. The Stop & Shop is proposed for the old Saks Fifth Avenue location, 92 Millburn Ave. in Short Hills. Even though that property is located in Springfield, Millburn has jurisdiction on the 20-foot piece of land entering the property, the township engineer, Thomas Watkinson, said. Residents and Watkinson have raised concerns of traffic safety with the proposed plan. This week in Millburn and Short Hills, the township gets back down to business with busy first few days of the week. To kick things off, the Zoning Board will meet tonight, at 7 p.m., on the second floor of Town Hall. Stop & Shop presentation will not be made again until Oct. 1. Please see the PDF for the agenda. Zoning Board sets next hearing for Dec. 5; will dismiss matter if officials don't attend.
The Zoning Board of Adjustment began a series of hearings with T-Mobile’s representatives in August and was scheduled to continue those hearings Monday night, but announced that the hearing was postponed - again. The Zoning Board had blocked out time Monday night and again on October 17, but postponed the hearing until Dec. 5. Zoning Board Chairman Joseph Steinberg directed the board’s attorney to send a letter to T-Mobile counsel letting the company know that if T-Mobile does not make the December hearing, he will ask for the matter to be “dismissed without prejudice.” “We will not continue to hear the matter after that,” he said. Thank you for following this so closely, Rogie. Residents of Millburn need to be concerned about this and ask our Zoning Board to scrutinize all testimony and make a determination that will support the safety of our town.
