Summit Medical Group Proposes Facility on Chatham Road

The four-floor, 62,908-square-foot building would have two floors of medical offices and two floors of parking.

Summit Medical Group is hoping to construct a new facility at the corner of Chatham Road and Woodland Road in Short Hills. The new 62,908 square-foot building would have two floors of medical offices and two floors of interior parking, according to the plans and application filed at Town Hall. It would replace the current three buildings at the site, including a gas station, a professional office building and a medical office building. The gas station is not in use. The Zoning Board of Adjustment is scheduled to review the requested variances for the project by the Berkeley Heights-based company during a meeting on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Chai Center Hearing Focuses on Engineering

There were questions on the center's mailing list before the evening turned to engineering issues. The hearing continues on Aug. 23.

There were questions on the Chai Center's mailing list before the Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing shifted to engineering issues on Monday night. It was the third hearing on the application to build a synagogue at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Old Short Hills Road for the Chai Center for Living Judaism. A fourth hearing is scheduled for Aug. 23. The proposal for a 16,350-square-foot structure containing a 144-seat synagogue, library, social room, and several multi-purpose rooms on 1.8 acres of residential property has been met with strong opposition from The Concerned Neighborhood Association of Millburn Township, also known as Save Millburn. The building would replace two single-family homes currently on the adjacent lots. One of …

Town zoning says he does not have enough land. He shouldnt be allowed to build a nonresidential structure there. The neighborhood has spent large sums of money to own homes in this exclusive area and values will plummet if non residential structures are allowed to be built. Short Hills is a very built up community and every religion cant have facilities built just because they is not one already…   more ›

Cell Tower Proposed for Morris Turnpike Area

The tower would be behind the Short Hills Terrace apartments along the railroad tracks.

A proposal for a cellular tower on Morris Turnpike is drawing concern from some residents in the area. T-Mobile has proposed to construct a 140-foot cellular tower behind the Short Hills Terrace apartments at 806 Morris Turnpike. The proposed tower would be about 80 feet from the property line, adjacent to the train tracks. It also would be about 80 feet from the apartment building, which is tucked back from the road. The tower would look like a tree, similar to other masked cell towers in the region, including one along the Garden State Parkway in Clark. The Zoning Board of Adjustment held a hearing about the application Monday night, but will continue it on Sept. 20 because of further testimony and questions on the application. The board…

I am deeply concerned about the proposal of a cell tower in our community. I am concerned about the children in the area, in addition to the monetary value it will have on our resale of homes. I certainly don't trust any safety information that T-Mobile will present. Do not under-estimate the owners of Short Hills Terrace. They have a very bad reputation, care only about money and certainly don't…   more ›

Uses of Proposed Chai Center Questioned

The Zoning Board of Adjustment continued its hearing Monday night on the proposed Jefferson Avenue synagogue.

There were a lot of questions for Rabbi Mendel Bogomilsky during Monday's Board of Zoning Adjustment hearing on the proposed synagogue, and most came with yes or no answers. The questions on cross-examination posed by Richard Lamb, an attorney for the neighbors opposing, centered on the uses proposed for the Chai Center for Living Judaism at the Jefferson Avenue. "We're trying to get at what the activities for the facility will be," he told the board when the team for the Chai Center objected to his line of questioning. It was the second hearing for the proposal before the zoning board, and a handful of residents in attendance had their chance to ask questions during the meeting. Bogomilsky's testimony concluded Monday night, and more …
