South Orange resident to sing, rap in concert featuring her new song, "Neurotic Society Compulsory Mix," at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
Singer, songwriter Lauryn Hill, the South Orange resident and former Fugee who must soon surrender for a three-month prison term for failing to pay taxes on $2.3 million in income over a five-year span, will perform Tuesday, May 14 in Brooklyn, a published report Monday said. Hill, who was sentenced on Monday, May 6 for tax evasion, will sing and rap at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, according to the NJ.com report. Tickets to the show are $85 in advance and $100 at the door, the report said, and VIP “meet and greet” passes may be purchased for $200. Singer, songwriter Lauryn Hill has been keeping a low profile since she was sentenced to three months in prison for failing to pay taxes on $2.3 million in income over the span of five years on Monday, May 6, a published report Sunday said. Sentencing in the federal tax evasion case against singer Lauryn Hill, who rose to fame as part of The Fugees and for her 1998 solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, was adjourned Monday until May 6 after a dispute arose over how much she actually owes. The 37-year-old singer and South Orange resident pleaded guilty in June 2012 to failing to pay taxes on $1.8 million in income earned in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The eight-time Grammy winner earned most of that income from music and film royalties and also owned at least four businesses. Lauryn Hill today admitted that she failed to pay income taxes on nearly $2 million worth of income. The singer and South Orange resident pleaded guilty in federal court in Newark to tax evasion for three years, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced today. The maximum penalty for each charge is one year in prison plus fines and court costs. Hill, best known for her work with fellow singer Wyclef Jean in the group The Fugees, and for her solo recording, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, waived her right to a trial, appearing today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Shipp. Attempts to reach Hill for comment were unsuccessful.
