Congressman Leonard Lance, NJ-07, met with several Seventh District mayors, state officials and representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Jan. 9 in Westfield to discuss the status of the Rahway River Basin feasibility study currently under way by the Corps. During the meeting, Millburn Mayor Sandra Haimoff, Springfield Mayor David Amlen, Union Mayor Clifton People, Cranford Mayor Tom Hannen, Garwood Mayor Pat Quattrochi and Union County Freeholder Bruce Bergen received a briefing from the Army Corps of Engineers, state officials and Lance about the status of the study. Millburn Mayor Haimoff’s power restoration effort We wish to thank Mayor Haimoff for the twice-daily updates on the power outages after Hurricane Sandy. She has been working long days tracking the thousands of locations which remained without power past the initial four days. Her numerous appeals for help resulted in the assignment of a JCP&L vice-president to oversee power restoration. Despite her prodding JCP&L was unable to meet their promised deadlines. The Millburn police deserve commendation for their excellent service and emergency management these past two weeks. The Millburn ShopRite kicked off its 13th year participating in September's National Hunger Action Month with its 'Help Bag Hunger' event on Wednesday. As a part of Partners in Caring Day, Mayor Sandra Haimoff bagged groceries in aile seven to help donations to line the shelves of local food banks. "Anything that makes people aware of situation is a reason to help," Haimoff said. "Each year I have been mayor I have done this. I always like to chat with everyone." ShopRite management and the mayor cut a ribbon, opening an aile at 10:30 a.m. for the mayor to pack up groceries with a personalized ShopRite apron. Gov.
