Applications for the 2012-2013 year must be made online by June 30.
After being pleased with the savings and the results, the Board of Education will continue its subscription busing program next year. Under the subscription plan, parents pay a yearly fee per child for busing, rather than the school district providing the service for free as it had before the current year. Next year’s fee will remain the same at $580 per student with a family cap of $1,160. The fee is non-refundable, according to district officials. Applications for subscription busing must be submitted online this year by Saturday, June 30. Administrators emphasize that any anyone other than new students applying after June 30 will be placed on a waiting list and will not be scheduled for busing before September 17 - if seats are still …

In an effort to compromise on the busing issue, board members tweaked their original proposal, allowing for a cap on fees for multiple children in a family and doubling the income threshold for qualifying for a hardship waiver. “Like any compromise,” Superintendent James Crisfield said, “no one will be happy with all of it.” Crisfield predicted correctly. Many parents, especially those whose children were redistricted out of their neighborhood schools, expressed frustration …

Hi Nantz - You are so right about the teachers being responsible for training the future leaders of America. Whenever I see those very inspiring Barack Obama link banners on top of this Patch page such as "Barack Obama Needs Your Help" or "Join Michelle Obama in Supporting Barack" (right next to the "Bunny's Sports Bar -- 18 New Flat Screen TVs" ads), I realize how critical our teachers' role is …   more ›
