    Fran - great thoughts-
I believe many are in your position and struggle with the same feelings and emotions you've expressed after being unemployed for a lengthy period of time - adapting to a new unconventional lifestyle for a period of not months but years - has made them happy again with new hobbies and habits after losing or ending a career path.
I guess you have to think about a career all over again and not just work at a couple of jobs to support a happy lifestyle you've built for yourself during very difficult employment times. I think because the job market is beginning to open up again after a very long dry spell - people are now becoming more forward thinking about having a future rather than just surviving and this should be a hopeful feeling - a good feeling - rather it's become a confusing one. One the one hand you're content with what you have and on the other you can have more - That there can and will be a future versus a fatalists view just to get by and pay the next rent check and not stress over every bill.
I also believe age and region plays a roll. A person in their late twenties, thirties living in Colorado has a much different view about lifestyle and career than a person in the Northeast. My opinion - life is too short - do what makes you happy - try not to live with a lot of drama.

Yes Leslie I heard about this on the radio.. One of the quotes from a litgant went something like " I spent 12 days camping in my home" - sound familiar? Also the COO of LIPA has resigned after it was reported that he spent exactly :30 seconds of the meeting before Sandy planning for the storm. I wonder how long JCP&L spent planning for this storm - I also wonder how long our town council spent discussing it with our business administrator and planning for this storm.

I decided to sit in on the Board of Ed meeting last night which they held on the evening of veterans day.

I commended Dr. Crisfield early on along with everyone who kept us informed during the storm regarding the schools. However last night I was a bit taken aback as "on the record" the Superendendant thanked everyone on his staff the great job they did communicating everything also acknowledging and thanking the Town Council the Mayor and he named Tim Gordon and thanked him in personally and in particular for the great job he did - and saying their relationship is in tact and quite good.

Personally I believe this is the Superintendent's way of helping to circle the wagons for the other issues he may have to deal with down the road with the Business Administrator's office and the Town Council. I was sitting there biting my tongue.
    A great job? crazy.

Between the Short Hills Association's comments - and now the Superintendent of schools comments last night - the battle lines are being drawn politically.

So now the Community - all of you - must show just how united you are for a real change with our local government. You must convince your friends and neighbors that change only comes by their involvement and this type of apathetic government will persist with the next big issue or storm.

it doesn't sound like a threat however let me clarify -
Ms. Wallen is showing extraordinarily poor judgement in choosing sides without being well informed about all of the issues at hand, and she may be digging herself and her organization a deep political hole.
    better?

A daily briefing from the Mayor would have been something standing on a make-shift podium with a loud speaker system outside city hall.

A broadcast on AM radio is a very low tech old emergency communication system which can heard within only the radius of the town much like the announcements you here when driving through the Lincoln Tunnel.

but even a tech guru wouldn't be able to fix the problem of providing a shelter for the community or having a confluence of information. That has to come through leadership.

This is Mayor Haimoff's friend and long-time supporter playing damage control. - politics.
Frankly the astonishing way our Mayor, Town Council, and Business Administrator prepared, communicated, and took action throughout these past 2 weeks was shockingly disgraceful.
Ms. Wallen should stay clear because the majority of this community disagrees with her statement.
