ReplyThere had been a Millburn Kiwanis Club for over sixty years, and they merged with the Springfield Club many years ago. The Millburn-Springfield Kiwanis Club returned its charter last year. The MHS Key Club had been sponsored by them since Key Club began in the eighties.

ReplyKiwanis International oversees high school Key Clubs, as well as organizations on the collegiate, elementary, and middle school levels. 80% of focus is on the local communities, 10% on the district, and 10% in international activities (eradicating global iodine deficiencies with UNICEF, preventing neonatal tetanus, etc.).
Kiwanis has a reputation for their interaction on a local level. The Millburn-Springfield Kiwanis club shut its doors last year, so the local parent organization is gone.
While Millburn Key Club doesn't need a Kiwanis chapter, advisor Neil Cooperman tells me "they sure can benefit from it".
During Sandy, Kiwanis was responsible for the distribution of portable water through their huge network of volunteers (250K members worldwide).
Cooperman says that Mayor Haimoff, Business Administrator Gordon, Supt. Crisfield, Principal Dr. Miron, the Board of Ed., and the Chamber of Commerce are all supportive of this idea. The Millburn High School Key Club recently won first place for donations to the Union Food Bank, in their division. They donated 6800 lb. of food, plus $1,854, beating the second place school by a margin of 4000 lb. (without even knowing the contest existed!)
The Key Club invites you to the meeting on March 18, to establish this new community outreach and service hub for Millburn Township.

We were there!!
The MHS Accelerated Band was playing Americana folk songs in front of Schoolhouse Plaza on Millburn Ave.
Unfortunately, the MHS band marches neither in the Memorial Day Parade nor the Snowflake Parade, but we are always there!! -

ReplyNote: MHS Junior and tenor Anthony Joo also performed with the Mixed Chorus.
Seven, not six, student musicians, performed in All-State Ensembles.

On the article MHS Musings: Thoroughly Modern Millie

Max Sauberman
6:31 pm on Sunday, November 20, 2011
Thoroughly Modern Millie premiered on Broadway in 2002, only nine years ago.
Into the Woods, last year's musical, opened in the late '80s, and had never been performed on the MHS stage until last year.
The year before, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", was even more contemporary: opened in 2005.MHS is not repeating the "same cycle of plays", and is always looking for something new and refreshing.
The last truly "classic" musical that MHS put on is "Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", in the fall of 2007, and that was four years ago.The directors of Limelight theater have done a great job choosing consecutive musicals with contrasting styles. We can promise you won't see "Fiddler", "The Sound of Music", or anything vaguely in that style performed at MHS for the next few years.

Student performances this year come from the canon of musical theater. We are proud to feature songs from "Les Miserables", "Shrek", "Once", "A Chorus Line", and much more.
Faculty performers include MHS teachers Neil Cooperman, Arvin Arjona, Sharon van Blijdesteijn, John Jesse Mahon, Kelly Brandt, Chris Hanzely, Kelly Lormand, and Jen Cicenia.
There will be a special performance by the MHS English Department as well.
Millburn's Soulfege A Cappella group will provide the Act I finale.
Seniors Jordana Graifman & Rachel Ben-Menachem are artistic directors for the concert.
