ReplyWyoming Avenue could use some good old fashioned speed limit enforcement. its a 2 mile drag strip from Glen ave to South Orange Ave. It is one lane in each direction with walking/biking/running lanes on each side. Drivers regularly pass on the right at full speed, driving into the walking lane to get around someone making a left hand turn. People regularly drive way above 50 mph down this road with a 35mph speed limit. I've never seen a speeding ticket issued on Wyoming in Millburn, and I've lived here for 20 years. I HAVE seen plenty of accidents, and there are constant "near misses". Its the wild west on Wyoming... So be careful.

Replyall valid comments about the legal issues... lots of things to consider. one item to consider though is that being bullied is i'm guessing like being in pain. and i'm pretty sure that nurses (and i'm guessing doctors as well) will agree that pain is considered to be as real as the person experiencing it feels that it is. so it doesnt really matter if different people experience being in pain or being bullied in different degrees. what matters is how you experience it. but this is definitely a difficult subject.

ReplyIts nice to see that the school system has finally gotten the concept that "kids will be kids" is not a plan. Bullying, including cyber bullying is a significant and REAL problem that can effect its victims for years.

ReplyThere are far more than 3 or 4 Millburn riders. John Conners diligent work shows this fact. Millburn riders of the Jitney are happy to pay our fare share for the additional 2-4 minutes required to make the loop through Millburn . This is a great way of connecting our neighboring communities. it seems a shame to drop it now.

ReplyThe current focus on crime related issues in the Wyoming neighborhood inspires me to bring up the issue of police presence there. Wyoming aveis a 2 mile straight as an arrow stretch with no traffic lights or stop signs along which cars now speed at easily 50-60 miles an hour regularly. It is lined with homes (no businesses), sports a church and a large grammar school one block off the main drag. it is also lined with a running/walking/biking path on both signs. I've lived on Wyoming ave for 17 years and i can't recall a single time that i have seen a vehicle pulled over for speeding. never. i have been told that its a county road, and therefore millburn isn't responsible for it. however, if i accidentally leave my car on the street over night, i get a nice ticket from millburn police department, and got a ticket for an expired inspection sticker once. This is a VERY dangerous road. I dont mean to sound like that angry old man character... but cars and now full sized tractor trailers (serving kings in maplewood and starbucks in millburn) speed outrageously up and down the street all day/night long. i've come close to being hit several times while walking or running. many children walk to school along this road every day. i believe an active Millburn police presence on Wyoming Ave would have a deterrent effect on crime, and a very positive effect on safety.

how much did we get charged for hiring guys in helicopters to buzz the reservation at night counting deer? i'd rather have them spend that money to hire more police to scour the streets for bad guys
